Desert Gazelle
Sports Team
Inspired by the importance of sports for individuals and society, and to raise awareness of the athletic abilities of persons with intellectual disability, the “Desert Gazelles” sports team was formed in 2009. The team participates and represents Saudi Arabia in sports events for individuals with intellectual disability.
Karoo King
The “Karoo Kings” is a group of Help Center Alumni and their artisanal wooden sales cart (Karoo), who sell the artisanal products of Dirat Ajdadi; candles, soap, fresh vegetables, etc.
The "Karoo Kings" project aims to prove the right of persons with intellectual disabilities to participate in various activities and demonstrate their abilities to integrate into their societies.
Desert Helpers
Volunteering Group
The “Desert Helpers” is a group for Help Center alums (21+ years old) to give back to their community. By working in areas of their expertise, these "helpers" serve their social responsibility through different jobs and ensure ongoing progress in their given skill set.
Desert Knights Troupe
Performing Actors With Intellectual Disabilities
"Desert Knights" is a non-profit group of performers with intellectual disabilities starting at the age of 16. Through various performances, the troupe communicates its message to the world through one universal language, the arts, which aims to remove barriers between civilizations in different countries.
The "Desert Knights" troupe was founded in 2003 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and originally consisted of young male performers trained at the Help Center, KSA. With the evolvement of the country, the troupe has also evolved and proudly incorporates female performers with intellectual disabilities. Over the years, the Desert Knight performances include contemporary tunes and rhythmic movements that are incorporated into modern theatrical works.
Since then, they have entertained audiences in Saudi Arabia, South Africa, The United States, Kuwait, and Egypt. Also participating in many festivals and activities within the cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the Janadriyah Festival, National Day and many more. In addition, some of the troupe’s members were involved in the Arabic rendition of the movie "Champions", which debuted inside and outside Saudi Arabia in 2021 and was screened at the Red Sea film festival. Finally, and most recently, they competed in the in the Sixth Gulf Festival for Persons with Disabilities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where they won second place for best show.
